Kate DeVoe holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Trumpet Performance from Augsburg College and a Master’s of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Minnesota, where she studied with David Baldwin, Gary Bordner, and Lynn Erickson.

Kate serves as a Trumpet Instructor at Hamline University. She also teaches out of her home studio, which she founded in 2005. In 2017 she served as a Trumpet Coach for the Minnesota All State Band, where she had the privilege of working with top notch high school trumpet players from around the state. Kate teaches all ages and levels of trumpet players. She teaches a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, and improvisation. Kate seeks to encourage women and girls in the brass world and to spread the joy of playing music to all of her students.

Current projects include:

Brass Lassie:  a bold 10 piece ensemble that performs Scottish, Irish and French music both traditionally as well as with new jazz-inspired arrangements, featuring a 4-piece horn section, rhythm section, fiddles, flutes, pipes, vocals and some fabulous step dancing. Led by Laura MacKenzie.

The Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble: 24 trumpet players strong, this group plays everything from classic classical literature (Aida, Great Gate of Kiev), to jazz and patriotic tune arrangements. Led by James Olcott.

Roxxy Hall Band: a blues rock/soul group that plays original and cover tunes at venues like Twin Cities Pride Festival, the MN State Fair, and MN Music Cafe.

Kate also plays periodically with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, Swing Sisterhood (big band), and the Satellites (R&B/soul cover band).
